The Open, what is it, and why do I care….
We are just under a month away from the beginning of the CrossFit Games season, and it starts with the CrossFit Open. If you as CrossFit HQ, the Open is a worldwide online competition to begin the process to find the fittest athletes on Earth, and in part that’s true. It is the way they find the athletes that will compete at Regionals, and in the Master’s and Teen competitions, but for the other 98% of the athletes that sign up for the Open it is a little different. The CrossFit Open is the least expensive competition you can sign up for, its also a way for you to measure yourself against people your own age across the world. You can also see how you did on the exact same workout that the winner of the CrossFit Games had to do. How many other sports have the amateurs competing right along with the Pros? (Do not say golf, I said Sport not activity)
Here’s a link from the Games site pretty much saying the same thing.
And the link to register if you choose.
As far as how we will be handling the Open at TWCF, we will be hosting viewings for the announcements on Thursday nights at the gym, and we will be conducting the workouts on Saturdays. Oh, I almost forgot, we will be having an in-house intramural competition comprised of three teams competing to score points in multiple categories, so its not all about the workout. More info will be coming out in the next week or two. We would really like all of you to take part and have fun with us as we celebrate the kickoff to the Games season.
